Muddy Chess Valley: Where Every Move Comes with a Splash!
The temperature has already risen compared to previous days; contrary to usual, we’re heading north, towards the Chess Valley, a small paradise reachable from the Metropolitan Line, one of those hidden gems that only London can offer.
We have to detour immediately to allow the coffee addicts to get their daily fix, but this actually puts us on course for the direction we need to take, following the River Chess from Rickmansworth up to its source in Chesham.
The walk is pleasant and flat, with no notable difficulties except for the vast expanse of soft ground we find ourselves having to tackle.
Some fall, and some miraculously stay on their feet, but not even the wind and the signs of the storm Isha can take away the pleasure of a picnic lunch with a view.
We continue heading north and arrive at the pub as usual, hot drinks and all, the perfect farewell to another adventure in the bag.
