Feathered Friend: The Robin Returns for Seconds, and So Does the Joy
I’m expecting a walk with only a couple of people for Metropolitan Walkers (a Ramblers UK group) , based on the Meetup count; but fortunately, there is still spontaneity in this world, and to my great surprise, I find 7 Ramblers warriors outside the Guildford entrance, armed to the teeth to assault the North Downs Way on this beautiful dry and crisp day.
One by one, or as we would say in Italy, in the “Cesarini” area, three more arrive.
Our troop of 11 brave souls starts the crossing at a good pace, first along the River Wey and then up to Puttenham Common as planned.
During lunch, a small miracle: the robin I had “met” during the reconnaissance comes back to visit me for a few crumbs of scone, you will always be welcome!
On the way back, we take a path south of the NDW, more scenic and muddy, ideal for those breaking in their boots today.
We end as tradition at the pub, where the majority is trying to keep their Dry January pledge; however, some cannot resist the challenge, we’ll try again next year.
